Echanges internes et externes chez les pasteurs: le système économique des Toubou
Internal exchanges among Tubu pastoralists far exceed
market ones. These internal exchanges stem mostly
from their marriage system, which prohibits close kin,
and induces many animal transfers from the
bridegroom’s to the bride’s relatives, then to the
newlywed couple. The consequences of these
exchanges can be felt in personal relationships, rights
in animals, moral obligations and political anarchy.
Following the description and analysis of this system,
a comparison is attempted with other Saharo-sahelian
pastoral societies.
